Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe Africa Tour Guide: Robins Camp - Zimbabwe

Sizziling Zimbabwe – Robins Camp

Zimbabwe is a beautiful country in Southern Africa that is known for its dramatic landscapes, its diverse wildlife.

Let’s look at the Robins Camp

ABOUT ROBINS CAMP

Robins Camp, now under private new management, offers an exciting revival of the iconic safari destination in Hwange National Park. Robins Camp is situated in the rugged northern Basalt area of the park, an area rich in natural water with seeps and springs dotting the area. It is the home to some of the last great buffalo herds in Africa, with herds of over 2000 still seen. Given the abundance of prey animals, it is no wonder that it also has the highest concentration of lion in the Park. Robins is also known for big populations of reedbuck, roan, sable and tsessebe as well as the usual herds of elephants and other species encountered in the Park. Particularly encouraging are the regular sightings of both Cheetah and African Wild Dog.

The scenery of Robins is varied with hills, kopjes (small bouldered hills) and vlei (grassed plains that flood seasonally) areas and has a lot to offer the wildlife enthusiast. We welcome children of all ages and guests can self-drive or choose a fully guided trip.

Although wildlife sighting is usually very good in the Robins Camp area of Hwange National Park, we have no control over the animal movements – some sightings require some patience and a little luck…

Robins Camp is situated in the north western section of Hwange National Park, a quick 20-minute flight or a two-hour drive from Victoria Falls.

  • The bag dimensions are based on what is able to fit into the aircraft luggage pods which are restricted.
  • A collapsible wheeled luggage frame/trolley (separate to the bag) is allowed, as long as basic dimensions are similar to that of the bag.
    • Luggage is restricted to: C208 - 12 Adult passengers with 10kgs luggage – including hand luggage
    • C208 - 10 Adult passengers with 20kgs luggage – including hand luggage
    • 206 - 4 Adult passengers maximum with 20kgs luggage – including hand luggage

Please find below the updated weight and dimensions policy:

  • The Air Charter Company generally operates Cessna Caravans (taking 10 guests with 20kg/44lbs luggage) or Cessna 206’s and 210’s (taking 4 guests with 20kg/44lbs luggage) in Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Zambia
  • Our main priority is safety and aviation regulations and the physical limitations of the aircraft we use – the
  • size and type, including the size of the luggage pod and seats – hence the need to have strict measures in place to ensure weight allowances are not exceeded.
  • It is critical that these parameters are adhered to by all our partners world-wide due to safety requirements and to prevent guests from being inconvenienced.

There are strict weight restrictions in place on any itinerary which includes light aircraft transfers for the following reasons:

  • The aircraft are designed with a maximum bodyweight and luggage weight allowance. Most of our airfields are over 1000 metres above sea level and are located in the tropics, and therefore the permissible aircraft carrying capacity is reduced.
  • The aircraft have physical space restrictions.

Some important issues must please be noted for air transfers with The Air Charter Company charters:

  1. Luggage, including camera equipment and hand luggage, is restricted per person travelling on seat rates, as follows: a. 20kg (44lbs) in Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe
  2. 20kg (44lbs) in South Africa
  3. Only soft bags will be accepted - no wheels, frames or rigid structures can be transported as they physically cannot fit into the aircraft.
  4. The maximum dimensions of the soft bags which can be accommodated are as follows: 25cm (10 inches) wide x 30cm (12 inches) high and 62cm (24 inches) long. Should your guest require a bag, we do have a supply of soft nylon carry-all bags at a reasonable cost. These bags are ideal for use on light aircraft and are the correct dimensions. Please keep in mind that the baggage compartments on the light aircraft are only 25cm high (10 inches), so the pilots must have the ability to manipulate the bag into the compartment.
  5. A collapsible wheeled luggage frame/trolley (separate to the bag) is allowed, as long as basic dimensions are similar to that of the bag.
  6. Please inform us in advance if guests weigh 100kg (220lbs) or more, as an extra seat must be purchased for safety and comfort.
  7. These limits are applicable to guests travelling on a seat rate basis so may differ if guests have booked on a sole use or private charter option in which case the maximum’s depend on the type of aircraft and the number of passengers booked.

EXCESS LUGGAGE

Should guests need to bring luggage in excess of the stipulated allowance, they have the option of buying an extra seat on the applicable charter flights. This “seat in plane” allows for a maximum of 70kg (154lbs) excess weight, on the proviso that the bag(s) conforms to the dimensions 40 x 40 x 80cms (16 x 16 x 31inches); soft bag i.e. no wheels/frame/rigid structures; able to physically fit onto a light aircraft seat; able to be physically

secured with one seatbelt; will not impact on the comfort of other guests on the flight.

Alternatively, excess luggage may be stored on behalf of your guests where there are available facilities, occasionally at additional cost. Please contact your journey specialist for further details. We do not anticipate any problems with stored luggage being damaged or stolen, but guests must ensure that they are in possession of full travel insurance including luggage cover. The Air Charter Company, or any person, agent acting for, through or on behalf of said companies, will be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever arising from any cause whatsoever
